One of the most common questions patients ask is when they are in hospital is when they can be 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲.
At Hvit Clinic we will look after your entire recovery at home with our medical team so that you can focus on the more important things! 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 as a patient to make sure you get 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘳 and ensuring you 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘶𝘵 of the hospital once you are at home.
1 – When you are having your consultation, ask your surgeon about the 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 of stay in hospital once you have had your operation.
2 – Ask questions!
Make sure you know:
🔸 What medications to take
🔸 How to look after your wound
🔸Frequency of wound dressing changes
🔸 How soon you can start exercising
🔸 If you need to adhere to a certain diet
🔸 Pain relief
3 – Make sure you get a 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 describing the surgery you have had and any leaflets with information that is relevant to your surgery and recovery.
4 – Before you go home, make sure that you know when your 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 is, what number to call in case you have questions or concerns, where to go in case of emergency.
5 – Speak to your doctor about what medications you have to take after your discharge home, if you can recommence your 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (if you are on any) and which medications you are not allowed to take immediately postop. You can ask for a list of your medications on the day of your discharge home.
6 – Keep your follow up appointments and make sure you follow any 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻 and advise you are given.
7 – Prevent 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 by abstaining from smoking, keeping your wound clean, follow any d dietary advise that you are given.
8 – Factor in 𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 such going for a walk everyday and spending as little time as possible in bed after your operation when you are at home.
