Fat dissolving injections vs. Liposuction

We’ve all heard of the traditional liposuction, but new less invasive options have become available as well. In one of our blogs on Instagram we touched upon this subject but thought we would explore a bit more into what it actually means.

WHAT ARE THEY AND HOW DO THEY WORK?

The fat dissolving injections are composed of different chemicals, including cholic acid and lecithin. This is then injected to the areas of fat that then have a dissolving effect on the cells. The results are usually visible in about 48 hours, with little to no downtime.

WHO CAN HAVE FAT DISSOLVING INJECTIONS?

Anybody over the age of 18 can have these injections. However, they’re not particularly useful if there are large amounts of areas that are of desired targets. The ideal candidate has stubborn pockets of fat in difficult places that have not disappeared with dietary and lifestyle modifications, such as under the chin. On occasion it has been used after a liposuction procedure, as a touch-up.

WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS?

Positives

  • It’s quick
  • Minimal to no downtime
  • Good to get rid of stubborn fat pockets
  • It’s non-invasive
  • Financially more viable
  • There’s minimal pain involved

Negatives

  • It only takes away small deposits of fat
  • More than one session might be required for effective results
  • Varying results in different clients
  • Careful patient selection is important

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?

The number of procedures will depend on the desired results. Usually between 2 and 5 treatments will be needed but is all depending on expectations as well. As with any treatment this decision will need a lot of careful thought and consideration. Consultation sessions are great opportunities for you to ask questions and find out which one is best for you.
